Thing 30: Reflections

1: What did you learn?

This is the third time I’ve completed CoolToolsForSchools. I am always impressed with the wide array of topics and tools that are available. This time through I am in a different school situation and I found that many of the tools are ideas that I am not yet ready for. I can’t see implementing a MakerSpace for another year or so. An amazing collection tool PearlTrees and an expanded Personal Learning Network are two big take-aways.

I loved the lessons regarding connecting with stakeholders and scanning the horizon. These two things are a huge part of what we do and are so easy to lose track of. It was motivating to read these articles. Tweaking our end of the year report to better suit the interests of our stakeholders will be an easy way to improve our image.

2: What’s next?

I realized with some of these activities that we really need to update our website and look into creating a digital presence. We will be working on our library mission statement to drive these activities. Once that is in place, by the end of June, we will work on designing the website with the intention of launching it mid-year next year.

3: Did you like learning this way?

As I mentioned this is my third time through the program and while I liked it I see that my needs have changed. At this point I feel that I am ready for more depth to my topics rather than breadth of topic. For that reason I don’t know that I will do this again. However, I would highly recommend that others join the program as I frequently refer back to my blog when I have one of those “I heard something about that.” moments.

About Kim Nemeth

Hello and welcome to my blog. I am a High School Library Media Specialist in beautiful Saratoga Springs New York. I am an avid reader and am addicted to learning. This blog was originally started as part of the Cool Tools for Schools project in 2012. Since then I have continued to participate in Cool Tools for Schools and add my thoughts here. I found this blog to be an excellent place to refer to when I needed an idea or had a tick mark in my head and needed a reminder. I would love comments and feedback on my posts. Enjoy!
